A Little Bit of Blog Analytics
Sep 19th, 2007 by yigber
Who’s Visiting my blog posts ?
How much time do my reades spend on each post ?
Where are they coming from - geo-wise and web-wise ?
How did my readers find my post ? What Blog Search Engine drove them here (probabely not google.com) ?
:
These are some important question that help you tune your blog, increase your reach, find out what’s weak in your content. Actually, if you swap the word blog with page you’d get basic Web Analytics theory, right ?
Today there are many mature tools, methods and books for doing classic Web Analytics work. But that’s not exactly the case when dealing with the somewhat simpler blog-content ! At least that’s my impression.
Maybe part of the reason for that is that doing Blog Analytics is slightly different than doing Web Analytics, and I should probably devote a separate post on that, but here’s one tiny example that will show the difference: Getting your post to rank high in a search in the blogsphere is different than getting your web page to rank high in a web search. This is true simply because the most popular blog search engine technorati.com ranks posts by a very secret complex formula which is: SORT BY POST-DATE !!! Yup, you heard right. If you wanna rank high in technorati all you have to do is….. post a few times a day and you’re done !
As time passes optimizing and analyzing blog content will be taken more seriously and become an important chapter in any analytics book.
Off the podium, back to work.
